       Inez Chatman’s Obituary

Inez Theresa Chatman, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, left us unexpectedly at the age of 81, on April 9, 2024.  Inez was born in Charleston, South Carolina, on July 29, 1942, to the late Hattie Mack (McDonald), a dedicated housekeeper and nanny whose strength and perseverance are echoed in the character of her daughter.  A lifelong exemplar of love and resilience, Inez’s 62-year marriage to her beloved William was a testament to unwavering devotion. The loss of William seven months ago brought a deep sadness that Inez bore with grace, yet she was still navigating through this profound change at the time of her   passing. Her role as a matriarch is cherished by her children Sheryl Freeman (Roger), Lisa Chatman, Sheldon Chatman (Toshie); her adoring grandchildren, Nicole Isaac (Mikko), Jeremy Pope, Dr. William Freeman (Gabrielle), Jordan Chatman; and her great-grandchild, Orion Isaac.

Throughout her husband’s 22 years in the United States Navy, Inez made countless sacrifices, managing the home front with grace and
resilience while he was deployed.  Her support was unwavering, and she became a pillar of strength not only for her family but also for other
naval families who leaned on her during challenging times.  Inez’s professional life as a Registered Nurse at Florida Hospital spanned 40 glorious years, touching many lives with her care and compassion.  Retirement did not slow her down; it simply gave her more time to pursue passions such as sewing, traveling the world with William, and enjoying her latest role as a weekly babysitter for her great-grandson, which she undertook with joyous devotion. Known in her neighborhood as the “lady who walks Princess,” after the passing of her beloved Schnauzer, the community came together in a show of support that Inez sincerely appreciated.  It was not uncommon to see Inez walking accompanied by friends and neighbors, chatting about everything from health tips to the latest neighborhood news. Her sudden departure has left a void in the lives of those who knew her.  Inez was a beacon of support and friendship, a source of wise counsel and humorous anecdotes that brightened the days of many.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Inez at Golden’s Funeral Home in Winter Park, FL, on Saturday, April 20, at 10:00 am.  Friends and family may gather to share condolences at the viewing being held at Golden’s Funeral Home that morning between 9:00 am and 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions maybe made to Cornerstone Hospice and Palliative Care in Ocoee, FL, in memory of Inez Chatman, a gesture reflecting her lifelong commitment to caring for others.

Inez’s legacy is not just in the love she shared, but in the courage she inspired.  Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she
touched—for Inez was truly one of a kind.

Golden’s Funeral Home in Winter Park, FL, humbly stands with the
Chatman family during this time, assisting with arrangements.

**There will be a live online broadcast for friends and family who are
unable to attend the funeral.
