REMEBERING THE LIFE OF

ANTONIO  “TONY”  RAFAEL TORRUELLA

ANTONIO RAFAEL TORRUELLA, affectionately known as “Tony”, was born on June 13, 1965 in Santa Monica, California. In 1970 he moved with his family to Huntsville, Alabama, and in 2001 he moved into the Duvall Presbyterian Home in Deland, Florida. There he formed an extended family and thrived happily for 23 years.

Tony was always youthful in spirit and mind, and his eyes brimmed with excitement and curiosity about what life might bring.

Tony excelled in his hobbies and sports. He was part of a bowling league where strikes were his habit. And most days you could find him at the basketball court shooting hoops or walking around the Duvall Campus. He loved tennis lessons with Kerry, his movie nights with Jared, attending Mass with Tania, playing pickle ball and going to the batting cage. He loved practicing new languages such as Portuguese, Spanish and Chinese and asked for books about Calculus and Physics for Christmas. He loved to latch hook, to watch DVDs, and to watch planes fly overhead. Perhaps more than anything, Tony loved Christmas, birthdays, road trips, and traveling.

One of the constants in his life was his relationship with his friend Jesus.

Tony was part of a church choir and he loved to sing anywhere and anytime.

God dispatched his angels on Saturday, February 17, 2024 to escort Tony to his heavenly home at the age of 58 after a long bout with melanoma.

Tony is preceded in death by his mother and father: Elvia C. Torruella Wirshing and Antonio Ramon Torruella of Puerto Rico.

Tony leaves his two brothers Jorge Torrella and Rick Torruella; his two sisters Susana Field and Tania Torruella, and his stepmother beloved Sara Torruella behind.

Tony will be buried in Ponce, Puerto Rico.
