Leslie Orin Weekes, affectionately known as “Sonnie” was born on May 18, 1958 in Suddie, Essequibo Guyana, South America. Sonnie was the eldest of six children born to Waveney Yvonne and Leslie Udolrick Weekes.
The Weekes family settled in South Rumvieldt, Georgetown where Sonnie attained his primary and secondary school education at Lodge Government and Smith Church Schools. Upon graduation from high school, Sonnie attended Guyana Technical Institute where he graduated as a Certified Mechanic in 1973.
