OBITUARY

KATHY BELINDA BOOKER

Kathy was born in East Chicago, Indiana to Ina and Henry Hazley on November 27, 1952.  She grew up surrounded by close friends and family members in New Edition.  She received her bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Eastern Michigan University, and her MA in Counseling Education from the University of Central Florida.  Kathy spent most of her career in the care and service of others as a licensed mental health counselor.

Kathy was a strong, intelligent, and beautiful daughter of the one and only true and living God.  Kathy committed to raising her four daughters in the way they should go, and ensured they developed a deep faith in God from the earliest days of their lives.  She was so incredibly proud of her daughters and grandchildren and the accomplishments they achieved with her guidance and wisdom. Her ministry and gifts were found in the love, support and counsel provided to her many clients, family, and friends. Her many accomplishments included writings of poetry, providing mental health services both domestically and internationally, establishing her own mental health counseling practice, “Affirming Counseling and Consulting”, in Winter Park, FL, appearing on radio and talk shows, serving her church community, and devoting her time, wisdom, and knowledge as one of the mothers of the church.

We know her hard work earned her all the treasures in heaven she deserves, and we celebrate with her as she finally sees first-hand how much she impacted all of us from her assignment here on earth.

Kathy loved God and her church family.  Her happiest moments were laughing, dancing, singing, and praying with her friends and family.  She was incredibly creative and filled her home with art and music.  She particularly loved African-American art and sculpture, and clothing inspired by the African diaspora.  With her beautiful locks piled on her head and dressed in her kente-garments, Kathy was a queen in all respects.  Well done, Queen.

Kathy will always be loved and missed by her mother, Ina Hazley; her daughters, Dr. Tondalaya Booker, Katisha Fortune, Jamila Flournoy, and Giovanni Barnes; her grandchildren, Tyanna, Jervaine, Brooke, Ryleigh, Makenson William, Kai, Alana, Braxton, Briella, & Brynna; her great grandchild Imani; her sisters and brother; Valerie Hazley-Anyiwo, Frankie Charles, Dawn Hazley, Lynne Robi, & Jay Hazley, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  She is preceded in death by her father Henry P. Hazley Sr. and brother, Henry P. Hazley Jr.

Although we mourn her absence from the body on this side of earth, we are encouraged in our knowledge that she is fully healed and restored eternally in Heaven. We rejoice in knowing that Kathy’s spirit will remain with us forever.

Being your look alike sister was a treat and then we met. Your tenacity and commitment were examples for many to aspire and acquire. To say you will be Missed is an understatement! There will be a gap and a void looking for your smiling face while knowing that Heaven is in for a treat Please know that many will look after your girls and your grands, so rest from a job well done. Sister Sue

I was blessed to provide Kathy her very first job in high school. She was raised by a loving Mother who stressed love and education. I always knew she (and Dawn) would rise to excellence…

My thoughts are with family and friends of Kathy. Your father in heaven is so proud of you. Thanks cousin for reaching out to me a year ago when my mother (her aunt) passed on. We talked nearly two hours. I discovered listening to her how deep our genes run. My only wish was that we could have known each other more. While its difficult to except when our loved ones are no longer here on earth, there is peace knowing they are no longer hurting or in pain. Well done Cousin K. Well done. I know you’re rejoicing with Uncle Henry and Mama Ruth. With love…Adrenna

I was very saddened to hear the news of Ms. Kathy B Booker’s passing. I would like to extend condolences to the entire Booker Family and friends. Worked with Kathy for years. She will be missed, but never forgotten. May God Comfort and Strengthen you during this time of bereavement! Psalm 30:5. KJ. For His anger endureth but a moment, and in His favor is life; weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
